The Cathedral commissioned Dave Brubeck's Pange Lingua Variations in the 1980s. Join us for the third performance of this sacred cantata at the Cathedral! The Cathedral Choir and orchestra will be conducted by Neal Gittleman, with special guest artists Chris Brubeck, Dan Brubeck, and Joe Gilman.
An optional wine & cheese reception and tours of the Cathedral [$50 per person] will begin at 6 pm before the 8 pm performance.
All proceeds will be used to support the Cathedral's Social Service Ministries.
Chris and Dan Brubeck have been making music together practically all their lives. Drummer Dan and bassist, trombonist, and composer Chris cut their first record together in 1966— more than a half century ago. They’ve subsequently played a variety of styles in a number of different groups, as well as with their father, jazz giant Dave Brubeck, and with their own Brubeck Brothers Quartet.
Dr. Joe Gilman is a full-time professor of music at American River College in Sacramento, an adjunct professor of jazz studies at CSU Sacramento, and a longtime associate of the Brubeck Institute and the Stanford Jazz Workshop. Joe was the music director of Capital Jazz Project from 1997 to 2011. He has received bachelor's degrees in classical piano and jazz studies at Indiana University, a master's degree in jazz and the contemporary media from the Eastman School of Music, and a doctoral degree in education from the University of Sarasota.

The Choir's primary role is to support the liturgical life of the Cathedral and the Diocese of Sacramento. In addition to the weekly Sunday Eucharist, the Cathedral Choir sings for the annual Chrism Mass, Ordinations, and other special liturgies of the Diocese.
